  • Oil
  • Turmeric
  • Garlic
  • Chili
  • Ginger

Nasi Goreng: Indonesian Fried Rice

The word Nasi Goreng literally means "fried rice," and this dish is one of the typical dishes of the rijsttafel, a festive menu of 15-25 dishes characteristic of Indonesian cuisine dating back to colonial times, gradually falling out of use due to its historical connotation.

It is actually a simple dish, a recovery dish, but complete, traditionally consumed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In fact, it is the Indonesian national dish, also offered to Barack Obama during his visit to Indonesia.

The base of Nasi Goreng is fried and spiced rice, usually accompanied by chicken, shrimp, and often vegetables. The rice is first steamed or boiled, and then sautéed with the other ingredients of nasi goreng, which can often vary by region. It is a dish also popular in Malaysia and Singapore, perfect for spice lovers and excellent for clearing out the fridge or using leftover rice or vegetables.

Terza Luna Nasi Goreng Spice Mix

Inspired by Indonesian cuisine, we have created this Nasi Goreng spice blend specifically for fried rice, a mix with a sweet taste, thanks to the onion, with slightly spicy nuances given by the presence of chili and ginger. A spoonful of this spice blend is enough to transform your dish into a delicious and exotic delicacy. The Nasi Goreng mix can be used on rice, chicken, eggs, and any vegetable dish, and of course in the recipe of the original Indonesian Nasi Goreng!

The Nasi Goreng Recipe

All you have to do is buy our Nasi Goreng spice mix and try your hand at making Indonesian fried rice. This typical Asian dish commonly uses chicken and shrimp, but that doesn't stop you from accompanying the fried rice with other types of meat like beef, or vegetables, to prepare a vegetarian nasi goreng. It is a recipe rich in ingredients and quite complex, but we facilitate its preparation with our ready-to-use spice mix. Let's see together what you will need to prepare Indonesian Nasi Goreng:

Ingredients:

  • Basmati Rice 250 g
  • Diced Chicken 250 g
  • Shrimp 250 g
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil to taste
  • Tomato Passata 100 g
  • 3 Eggs
  • Nasi Goreng Spices 1 tablespoon
  • Soy Sauce
  • Peanut Oil
  • A teaspoon of turmeric

Preparation:

  • Cook the rice by steaming or boiling it, making sure to drain it properly.
  • In a pan, heat peanut oil and add the Nasi Goreng spices and a tablespoon of turmeric, letting them release their flavors. Add the chicken cubes and brown them, then add the shrimp. Cook until done, then add the tomato puree and cook over medium heat. Add the soy sauce.
  • Once the chicken and shrimp mix is cooked, add the rice and stir-fry over high heat.
  • Separately, beat the egg with salt and cook it in a small pan with olive oil. Roll up the omelette, cut it into strips, and add it to the dish.
  • The Nasi Goreng is perfect to serve at room temperature.

Vegetarian Nasi Goreng

If you want to savor our Nasi Goreng spice mix in a stir-fried rice and explore the flavors of Bali but you are vegetarian, you can replace the chicken and shrimp in Nasi Goreng with vegetables like carrots, onions, peppers, and green beans, or tofu. You can also have fun adding your favorite spices and create a Nasi Goreng that fully satisfies your palate.
