The Greek mountain tea, or Sicilian witchcraft (from the Greek sideros which means "iron", from which Syderitis syriaca), and in Albania and Greece better known as caj mali, is a Greek plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family, originating precisely from the Mediterranean areas: Italy, Greece, Middle East.

The main consumers of this Greek herb are mainly the peoples living in the Balkans: Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Greece.

They are all great lovers of this delicious infusion, characteristic of the altitudes of the areas where it was consumed, so much so that it was nicknamed the tea of the shepherds.

The online mountain tea from Terza Luna is made from leaves and flowers of the finest quality, without branches or stems.

Taste of Sideritis Syriaca

The aroma of this Greek herb is very delicate, closely resembling the aroma of a lemon balm-based infusion, to which a note of licorice is added, ready to give a more distinctive and unforgettable trait. The taste of Greek mountain tea Sideritis Syriaca is essentially sweet and slightly floral, receiving positive feedback from all lovers of special teas.

Properties of Sicilian Witchcraft

Some studies confirm the soothing and decongestant properties of Greek mountain tea. It is certainly not a coincidence if Greek popular tradition reports it as an excellent digestive and very useful for combating conditions of constipation (colds, etc.). We often recommend it as one of the best infusions to combat colds.

Greek mountain tea does not contain theine. It is therefore ideal for those who fear the stimulating effects of some energizing teas.

This Greek herb, not containing theine, can be consumed in the form of herbal tea frequently and without any contraindications.

Usage tips:

  • Bring the water to a boil (100°C)

Some curiosities about mountain tea

The shepherd's tea, as it is often called in Italy, was considered a product with considerable regenerative power. Hence the etymology of the word "Sideris", meaning: iron.

It is said that the warriors of ancient Greece used the medicinal plant that is the basis of mountain tea to heal more quickly from wounds caused by iron spears.

The anti-inflammatory properties of this plant remain, and the pleasure of enjoying its fragrance in the form of herbal tea in a nice cup to be consumed even in the evening.
