Karkadè (or carcadè) is the flower of hibiscus from which a refreshing drink with a pleasant taste and intense red color can be obtained by infusion. Used as an herbal tea, it is an excellent diuretic and urinary antiseptic. Its infusion gives a slightly red, tangy, refreshing and thirst-quenching drink. It is digestive and regulates liver function.

It is an anti-inflammatory, soothing, vitaminizing drink, also useful in combating chronic constipation and its anthocyanins make it a angioprotective plant. In the form of an infusion, it is slightly laxative. For external use, due to the presence of polyphenols and mucilages, it has a soothing action on inflamed skin.

Karkadè is excellent both in winter as a hot herbal tea, and in summer as a cold herbal tea, in fact this is how it is consumed throughout Africa and the Middle East. Although we usually discourage the addition of sugar, in karkadè it seems inevitable, the high presence of tannins gives the infusion a particularly tart touch, but with the addition of a little sugar it becomes a delicious and healthy drink.
