ROOIBOS PROCESSING
The preparation of traditional rooibos involves harvesting the growing plant from summer to early autumn, shredding the leaves and twigs with axes into 4 cm pieces, beating with wooden pestles, fermenting the product in piles for 8-24 hours: during this process, the rooibos tea turns red-brown and the typical fruity aroma develops.
For this reason, rooibos tea is also called red tea. Subsequently, drying follows and finally the preparation of the flavored blend. Today rooibos tea is still produced more or less in the same way, but to maintain high quality and purity, it is pasteurized to preserve all the beneficial properties. Rooibos, as some studies emphasize, is rich in antioxidants and minerals. This makes it a suitable drink for everyone, especially for those who play sports (and lose minerals) or those who lose them due to advanced age or menopause.
