Every year, Terza Luna selects the most exclusive teas for its customers, with particular attention to those from the Indian region of Darjeeling, which are considered as the champagne of teas.

This year, among the samples received, we were particularly impressed by those from the Balasun garden, especially for its floral notes, muscatel, and honey characteristics of excellent work in bringing out the best from this terroir.
A very balanced tea, even though harvested and immediately shipped, the Black Darjeeling Tea Balasun does not seem at all unripe but already mature to be infused.

HOW TO PREPARE A GOOD DARJEELING?

Although Darjeeling teas are classified as black teas, they are actually a cross between black and green teas, perhaps closer to green teas. This can be noticed from the color of the leaves.

For this reason, to prepare a balanced cup and extract the best from these precious leaves, we recommend:

  • Low fixed residue water
  • 80° temperature or lower
  • 2 minutes of infusion

Cold brewing Darjeeling black teas also works very well, helping to bring out their more delicate notes.

BALASUN GARDEN

Famous for producing the best quality tea with a fuller body and the typical taste of Chinese muscatel, the Balasun tea estate extends over gentle hills with moderately steep slopes and a wide open valley with the Balasun river flowing at the bottom of the garden. Panoramic views.
The garden's altitude ranges from 365 meters to 1375 meters above sea level and
the temperature ranges from 7 degrees in winter to a maximum of 30 degrees in summer.

The estate is located near the small town of Sonada, one of the stations of the historic Darjeeling Toy train and is close to a Tibetan chorten (Stupa), Tiger Hill, Chatkput Eco Village, Senchel Lake, Senchel Reserve forest with oaks, chestnuts, walnuts, magnolias, rhododendrons, etc. During spring, bright blooms of rhododendrons, cream-colored magnolias, and orchids can be seen in this mossy forest. The region is famous for its trekking routes and birdwatching. The garden is easily accessible by road from Siliguri and the nearby Bagdogra Airport, which is 50 km away. The plantation was founded in 1871 by M/s Davenport & Company Ltd.
The original name of the garden was Nahore Balasun, taken from the Lepcha dialect and later renamed Balasun after the Balasun river that flows through the garden.

Jay Shree Tea and Industries acquired the garden in 2005. Since the acquisition, the management of Jay Shree Tea has invested in the complete improvement of the garden and factory infrastructure, employee welfare, regular filling initiatives, and planned reforestation for climate conservation. Complete renovation of factory buildings, roads, offices, and houses and upgrading the factory with the latest technologies to improve tea quality.

As a result of these initiatives, tea production per unit has significantly improved since 2005.
