Nepalese Rope Incense

If you travel to Nepal and if you like monasteries, you may easily come across one of the most unique incenses: the rope incense.
It is a very ancient form of sacred craftsmanship that has remained intact over time, as there is still a great tradition of using Nepalese sacred incense today.

Nepalese Rope Incense: How is it Made?

The ropes of Nepalese incense are made of a paper called Lokta, derived from two Himalayan shrubs of the laurel family of the Daphne species.
This paper has a very ancient use, as it was used for transcribing Buddhist Sutras, with the earliest artifacts dating back about 1500 years ago.
Some Lokta sheets are rolled together to create the ropes of Nepalese incense, which are then immersed in a compound made of essential oils, resins, and wood powders, in this case, Sandalwood.

All ingredients are completely natural.

How to Burn Nepalese Rope Incense?

Nepalese rope incense can easily be lit with a lighter and will burn on its own without extinguishing.
They can be placed on a saucer, or on an essential oil burner or an incense burner with sand.

Be careful because if placed on a saucer, they may stain due to the presence of essential oils.
The best use is on sand.
They have a duration of about 15-20 min.

Each pack of Nepalese incense contains 40 pieces inside.

The aroma is sweet, woody, slightly spicy.

Burning incense has always been a religious and magical act, it serves to purify that environment and help us connect with our most divine and sacred part.
