Harvest 2023
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi Spreng.
Origin: Albania
Format: Cut leaves for herbal tea
Uva Ursina is a plant from the ericaceae family that is often found in the Mediterranean and in our areas as it prefers calcareous and siliceous soils. However, it prefers altitudes ranging from 500 m up to 2400 in the eastern Pyrenees.
The most appreciable quality in the leaves of this plant is the disinfectant action they produce on the bladder, thanks to the presence of arbutin and methylarbutin that are released once in contact with urine disinfecting it. Therefore, it is a highly recommended plant for cystitis.
It is recommended to prepare an infusion of 30/40 g of leaves in a liter of water to drink throughout the day. The leaves can be chopped to facilitate the release of active ingredients in the infusion.
