The acai is the fruit of a palm tree that grows in South America, between Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia, it has a dark red color and is a traditional food of the Amazonian populations and many countries in the area. For some decades, acai berries have seen a great increase in their consumption in the United States and Europe, thanks to the properties attributed to them and the ease of their use. The acai berries for sale on Terza Luna are in freeze-dried format. Freeze-drying is a dehydration process at low temperatures invented to maintain the properties of the products as water is not removed through evaporation but through the sublimation of the ice that is created. In the freeze-drying process, a stabilizer is added, which in this case is maltodextrin, present at 20%.

The acai plant, also known as Euterpe Oleracea, is a plant of the Arecaceae family. It can reach up to 30 meters in height and is characterized by pinnate, particularly long leaves. The fruits, on the other hand, are small and weigh an average of one gram, similar to grapes. They are distinguished by a dark purple color and are skinless, but with a large pit. Each plant produces between 500 and 900 fruits.
The plant is native to South America and Central America and finds its main habitat in Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Guyana, French Guiana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and at the mouth of the Amazon River.
From the numerous studies consulted, it appears that acai berries have good antioxidant potential thanks to the presence of numerous flavonoids and anthocyanins, the freeze-drying process seems to preserve these molecules that often pose a problem due to their volatility. Indeed, the antioxidant power is the most advertised property, but it must be said that most of the studies consulted are in vitro and not in vivo, that is, they are studies done on animals and not on humans. The flavonoids present in acai berries are probably responsible for the neuroprotective effects of acai berries, which would therefore help to protect us from neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's. With similar mechanisms, acai could also have anticancer and chemo-protective potential, especially thanks to its great anti-inflammatory capacities.

The acai berries available online at Terza Luna are freeze-dried in powder form, so they are quite easy to use. They can be added to breakfast in the morning in yogurt or muesli or in many liquid preparations like smoothies, shakes, etc. You can create ice cream and sweets, cakes or cookies, perhaps by adding some sugar as their taste is quite astringent.
The taste of freeze-dried acai berries is similar to blueberries and can be consumed without any addition or treatment like any other fruit. However, some people may have difficulty adapting to the acidic taste typical of the fruit.
With freeze-dried acai berries you can indulge in the preparation of many delicious and very nutritious recipes. We at Terza Luna propose the recipe for preparing the acai bowl, a rich fruit salad with cereals and yogurt. A great breakfast to start the day off right thanks to the taste of acai berries that resemble chocolate and blueberries. For the preparation of the acai bowl, two main ingredients are needed:
To start, mix the yogurt with the freeze-dried acai berries to create the purple-colored puree that will be the base of our acai bowl. Depending on your tastes, you can decide whether to add milk to make the puree creamier. Once everything is well mixed and the desired consistency is achieved, you can fill it by adding cereals and fruit to your liking. We suggest adding corn flakes, bananas, or coconut.
The acai berries for sale by Terza Luna, despite being freeze-dried, need to be stored in a resealable container, such as glass jars, and stored in the refrigerator. Improper storage could compromise not only the taste of the berries but also cause the loss of all the nutritional properties of acai.
As always, the advice is not to overdo it. The recommended dosage is 150 grams of acai per day. However, the right dosage varies for each individual, and for this reason, we always recommend caution in intake and to consult your attending physician in case of doubts.
There are no particular side effects or contraindications for taking acai. No pharmacological interactions have been found either. The only "side effect" could come from personal hypersensitivity, perhaps due to a particular intolerance. In this case as well, we suggest consulting your trusted doctor.
