HISTORICAL NOTES

Dill is an aromatic plant whose use dates back to ancient times. Originally from southwest Asia, it can be found in some Egyptian stems, later mentioned several times by the Jews and then by the Romans who made extensive use of it in the kitchen. Therefore, we can say that it is used for food purposes, exploiting its therapeutic properties for almost 5000 years and, fortunately for us, it is still available today, thanks to online spice shops like Terza Luna.

USE AND PROPERTIES

Dill is not a typically Mediterranean aromatic plant, it is used much more in the East and especially in northern European countries: Scandinavia, Germany, England above all. Dill in cooking is highly appreciated by these peoples, especially for seasoning fish, both raw (carpaccio) and cooked, on meats and vegetables, in yogurt sauces and in general for marinating fish and meat. Dill, including the seeds, like all umbelliferous aromatic herbs, is an excellent digestive, especially useful for eliminating air stagnation in the stomach, eliminating colic and promoting relaxation of the intestinal walls. Dill boasts important digestive properties, similar to the more famous ginger. Among the spices online inexplicably absent from the shelves of us Italians. But there is always time to remedy these shortcomings, now that you know where to find it online.
