A great help during the menstrual cycle comes from plants, especially from oilseeds. We are talking about pumpkin seeds, flax, sesame, and sunflower. The use of these seeds before, during, and after the menstrual cycle can be of great help and more and more people are talking about it. This practice goes by different names, from "Seed Rotation" to "Seed Cycling". We also talked about natural remedies to deal with menstrual cramps and pains in our article on herbal teas for the menstrual cycle. Take a look!
"The menstrual cycle is a sequence of periodic physiological changes that take place in the female reproductive system (specifically in the uterus and ovaries) and that make pregnancy possible. ... The menstrual cycle is regulated by hormonal changes. Several structures (central nervous system, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and ovary) are involved in its maintenance and are closely interconnected. Each cycle can be divided into three phases, based on events in the ovary (ovarian cycle) or uterus (uterine cycle). The ovarian cycle consists of the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase, while the uterine cycle is divided into menstruation, proliferative phase, and secretory phase." The hormonal changes that women are exposed to during this period can lead to psychophysical imbalances that generate stress, nervousness, insomnia.
Oilseeds can help us reduce and mitigate these symptoms with a simple teaspoon a day. They help us balance better, in a completely natural way, our body's response to this important phase.
We have divided the cycle into different phases. Each phase corresponds to a type of seed to be taken.
In the first and second week, we recommend the intake of flax seeds and pumpkin seeds. 1-2 teaspoons each per day.
Flax acts on the regulation of estrogen. Pumpkin seeds, on the other hand, act as remineralizers, being a real mine of magnesium, iron, calcium, selenium, zinc. Both seeds help the endometrial tissue to develop correctly, avoiding pains and related pathologies.
From the third to the fourth week, we recommend sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. 1-2 teaspoons each per day.
Their action is on the progesterone levels; thanks to the presence of zinc (once again) sunflower seeds increase the production of progesterone. Sesame seeds, on the other hand, are rich in vitamin E, also essential for the production of progesterone.
The simple intake of these seeds during the cycle will help us prepare our body better, enriching it with the minerals and vitamins so precious in this phase.
